I'm Quitting Writing

Yep, I've had enough. LOL. Right. (although there are probably some people out there that got a little giddy at that and are now going, damn it, she was kidding, lol) I just can't keep a straight face. I've never been one of those who can do April fools jokes.

Here's a butt to make up for it.

Here's the real blog for today.

Okay, so I had to make some decisions regarding my writing schedule for the rest of 2010. I know it's only April but the sheer volume of what I faced forced me to actually make a writing schedule.

Also, I think I am going to try something different. Recently I visited author, T.A. Chase, who mentioned in his blog that he had developed a calendar to help him organize when to write on which stories. For instance on Monday, he would write on a certain story, Tuesday a different one. This idea intrigues me and so I may end up using this method myself.

But I digress.

Amazingly enough I finished four stories in three months. Those stories are Only For Him, Only His Heart, Still the One and Pieces. If you toss Only in His Dreams in there I wrote five stories in four months. I'm sweating just thinking about it, lol.

Anyway, His One and Only should be finished in April.

Then, I will be moving on to The Beach House. This story is part of Amber Allure's Hot Summer Daze series and needs to be completed by July 01. Because it is the only story with a hard and fast deadline, that bumps it up.

I will also be working on the following for the rest of 2010:

Twice in a Lifetime (Jude's story)
The Price Paid (my co-authored story with Ava March)
Never the One (Cops-Partners solving murders who become lovers, longer length)
The Other Side 2
Sorcerer's Lover 3

If you don't see a story there you are looking for that is because it has been pushed to the very end of 2010 or beyond. If I have time, which is a HUGE if, I will work on Waking the Prince, Undeniable and Tempted to Taste.

I really have no time for any new ideas, so I am going to try very very hard to stop thinking of them and stop listening to certain others who suggest them to me. If by chance I cannot stop a new idea, well, I'll write the idea down and save it for 2011.

Wednesday Musings

It's good to finally talk to the BFF.

If I could just get rid of my sore throat I'd be better off.

Wow, tomorrow is April already. I hope it's better than the first 3 months.

If I had a million dollars I could buy that home in Morro Bay, quit the EDJ and write full time. Nice to dream, isn't it?

What idiot would cheat on Sandra Bullock anyway?

Sometimes we're just too hard on ourselves.

Easter candy is my favorite and always has been.

The Story of Pieces

Well, I have news.

I think I had pretty much implied I had sent Pieces out to find a home. Well, as it turned out, I sent it to an editor I worked with at another publisher. They have published my stories in the past.

Bottom line, they didn't want Pieces because they believe it didn't have enough sex and it didn't start early enough. It is their opinion novellas should be heavy on sex and light on plot. This what they believe their readers want. I'm not sure I would agree with their assessment of the readers out there, but they are quite successful so they do know of what they speak. I still don't believe my previous stories with them were all about sex, though. Not to say there isn't some very nice sex in Pieces, by the way.

Anyway, I decided the best decision I could make for myself and Pieces at this time was to offer it to Amber Quill and they offered me a contract for it, so I am quite happy with that outcome.

I believe the release date will be in the early summer but I'll let you know.

Kevin's Interlude

Some work days were just harder than others and this particular day had been one of the more difficult ones in recent memory. Nothing went right and the high profile divorce case he’d been working on kept getting uglier by the hour.

By the time Michael parked the Maserati in the garage, though, his mood improved immensely. The door between the house and the garage opened with a bang and Kevin came running in to greet him.

“It’s about time!” Kevin exclaimed as Michael exited the car. His husband launched himself so hard at Michael he nearly knocked him off his feet. His dark, cherry-streaked hair was wild and mussed, but his eyeliner and lip gloss were done with an expert hand.

Michael laughed and closed his arms around Kevin, who was now planting kisses all over his face. “Happy to see me?”

“Duh.” Kevin practically crawled up his body. His arms wrapped around Michael’s neck as he pulled him down into a deep kiss.

“Mmm. Strawberry,” Michael murmured. His cock hardened, pressing against his briefs. He wondered if there’d be time for a quickie before dinner.

“Come on.” Kevin grabbed his hand and led him through the door and into the house. He took Michael’s briefcase out of his hand and left it just inside the door. “No way are you doing anything with that other than taking it right back to work with you in the morning.”

“Kevin.”

“I’m serious. No work.” He linked their fingers and led Michael through the dining room and into the kitchen. Kevin gestured with a tip of his head toward the island. Michael noticed a small tube of lube sitting there. “Remember our first time?”

Michael grinned and reached up to loosen his tie. “I’m not likely to forget it. Every single time I’ve had you is forever etched into my brain.”

Kevin’s fingers closed over the tie and pulled him close. “Well, get ready to remember this time then too.”

His pulse racing, his lips covered Kevin’s, his tongue pushing against the seam of his husband’s lips. His hands slide down Kevin’s body to cup his firm, rounded ass. Lifting him slightly, Michael set him on the edge of the island. When his tongue met Kevin’s he tasted a mixture of vanilla ice cream and iced tea.

Without breaking the kiss, Kevin seized the hem of his blue and green striped t-shirt and pushed it up to under his arms, exposing his creamy white flesh to Michael’s eager hands. Damn, the man was hot. He spread his fingers across Kevin’s abs, kneading his way up to the peach colored nipples. Kevin shook beneath him and pressed closer.

Unfortunately to get the shirt off completely he’d have to stop devouring Kevin’s lips. He broke the kiss and yanked the offending garment over Kevin’s head and tossing who knew where. His mouth covered Kevin’s once more, crushing, almost brutal. Kevin whimpered and sucked Michael’s tongue in deep, sucking to the point it hurt. He knew Kevin liked it that way, but his gentle squeeze to one of his lover’s cheeks made Kevin ease up.

Kevin tugged off Michael’s tie and then went to work on the buttons of his dress shirt. He pushed Kevin down on the island to take matter into his own hands and quickly discarded his shirt before turning to yank off Kevin’s Vans.

“Hurry,” Kevin pleaded, lifting up slightly to push his jeans down his hips. He was so slim he didn’t even need to undo them.

Like he needed to be told to hurry. But the begging nearly brought him to his knees. A desperate Kevin was the sexiest thing ever. He pulled off his lovers jeans and briefs in seconds flat, leaving his gaze to eat up the sight of a naked and very aroused Kevin.

Kevin’s hand closed over his hard cock, stroking it, his gaze on Michael. His finger dipping down to tease his hole.

Michael unfastened his trousers and dropped them to his feet, not bothering to fully step out of them. He watched as Kevin picked up the lube and sloshed a generous amount over his fingers. Once more his fingers slid down to his entrance, a single slicked digit pushing in.

His mouth dry, he pushed his boxers down to his knees and gripped his erection, rubbing the pre-cum in even as he watched his husband prepare himself. Michael’s whole body shivered with desire and anticipation.

When Kevin slipped a second finger inside, Michael couldn’t wait any longer. He took a step closer to the island and scooped up the lube, generously slicking his cock.

“Ready, hon?”

“Oh, yeah,” Kevin assured him.

Michael gripped Kevin’s ass and yanked him to the edge of the island and pushed in slowly, deeply past the ring of muscle and all the way in, balls deep. He didn’t immediately move, but stay still, absorbing the sheer pleasure of being inside Kevin.

Mine.

“Michael.” The soft, pleading moan was his undoing. His hands spread over his husband’s thighs and he began to pump slow and deep, penetrating thoroughly with each careful thrust.

Kevin stroked his cock with one hand while the other rolled his balls between his thumb and forefinger. His eyes were closed, his face flushed pink, and his breathing labored.

It was always this intense with them. Michael supposed it always would be. It might be hopelessly romantic and sentimental but loving Kevin as much as he did really did make the sex the most fantastic he’d ever had.

Michael joined his hand with Kevin’s and worked his lover’s erection. Kevin’s eyed popped open wide, the pupils dilated. Cum squirted onto Kevin’s stomach as he gasped out his release.

“Love you,” Michael groaned, thrusting hard and fast through his own orgasm, spilling inside his lover.

A short time later, he eased out and helped Kevin to sit up, pulling him into his arms and against him, holding close. “You’re so amazing.”

Kevin laughed. “Yeah.”

Michael grinned. “Terribly modest too.” He glanced around the uncluttered, spotless kitchen. Well, other than the island, of course. “What’s for dinner? I’m starved.”

“Mmm. I thought we’d go to that Italian place where we had our first date.”

“Antonio’s?”

“Yep.” Kevin hopped down. “So get dressed, babe.”

“Wait. Is this some kind of anniversary? Because if it is, I’m sorry I forgot. I swear I’ll make it up to you,” Michael promised. He bent down to pull up his pants.

Kevin laughed. “Chill, Michael. No anniversary. I just think it would be cool.” He batted his eyelashes. “Please.”

“Like I’d ever say no to you about anything. Just let me take a few minutes to clean up.”

They took Kevin’s little sedan to Antonio’s rather than the Maserati, but Michael still drove. He handed the keys to the valet and followed Kevin inside.

The maĆ®tre d' greeted them instantly. “Ah, wonderful to see you. Your table is ready.”

“Our table—”

“This way.” Kevin grabbed his arm and tugged him past the entrance and into the heart of the restaurant.

“Surprise!” A large group of people yelled as soon as they walked in.

Michael spotted his parents, Noah, Charlie, his brother and his new wife, several of the people from his firm, other friends, and even Gabby and her sons from the car wash.

Stunned and more than a little overwhelmed he turned to Kevin. “What the hell?’’

“It’s your surprise birthday party.”

Michael felt himself grin. “But my birthday is next week.”

“I know.” Kevin threw his arms around him. “But I wanted you to be surprised.”

“I definitely am. Even my brother? How did you get him down here?”

Kevin shrugged. “I might have threatened to throw a small tantrum.”

Michael kissed him. “I love you.”

“I love you, too. Happy birthday. Now go and enjoy your party.”

Happy Friday

I feel like a broken record. I have nothing to report. Really. Sigh.

It's been two weeks, well pretty close, since I sent Pieces out to find a home. And I am still waiting. Worse than that I could be waiting a lot longer. I know it will eventually be released with someone so I have no worries there, but I'd like to get it nailed down so I can announce it. I'm proud of Pieces . For those who are wondering it's name comes from the "pieces" of the heart. You know your heart is broken into pieces. Don't know why but I thought it fit the story. It's an angstier, darker story than some of the others I've written lately. One hero, Patrick, is still dealing with the suicide of his boyfriend and his guilt over that.

I'm also still waiting for the cover of May's release, Only His Heart. I'm sure you've noticed it's still blank there on the right of the blog. Trace has been working on some other May covers over the last couple of days so I am hoping mine will show up soon.

I'm still working on His One and Only. Poor guys, Drew and Mark, have yet to have sex. They'll get to it eventually, lol.

Kevin's Interlude should be posted Saturday.

Have a good weekend everyone.

The Latest

Rather than post an excerpt on Saturday this week I am going to post Kevin's free story. Which, of course, means I need to have it done by then.

Next week's excerpt (April 3) will be from my next release, Still the One (and then of course there will be a giveaway after that).

Last call to send me any questions you have for Ashtyn as I intend to emal them to him before the end of the month. Email me at authorshawnlane@gmail.com with anything you want me to ask.

Now, I have a question. It relates to direct sequels rather than related books like the Only series.

If you as a reader like a certain couple who had a happy ever after, would you continue to want to see more of them in sequels? Or would that be enough? And if you wanted sequels would the length bother you? If the only sequel to your beloved couple would be short, say even less than 10,000 words, would you still want to read it or would that be unsatisifying? Am I rambling? Probably.

I guess what prompted this was a recent comment I saw on a sequel where the person mentioned they had been looking forward to it but it was too short and that left them unsatisfied, so I'm wondering if the sequel should have never been written if it didn't add anything to the couple's story.

So answer if you want or if I am even making sense. It's quite possible I am not.

Anyway, look for the free story (speaking of beloved couples) on Saturday.

BFF News

I heard from Shayne today and he is doing a little better. He's still on bed rest and has more medicine to take but there was an improvement. He misses everyone but Jack is keeping a careful eye on all his activities.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts and well wishes. I am certain they helped.

Wednesday Musings

Building French Palaces is addicting.

Fighting at night when you should be doing other things is not fun. Especially in the morning when you have to get up for work.

Spring is here and it's time for some cleaning.

I predict I will be done with His One and Only by April 10th

As my dad used to say every five minutes during this season, Easter time is the time for eggs, the time for eggs is Easter time. LOL. Trust me it amused me endlessly when I was a child.

I am still waiting on everything I was waiting on last week. grrrr.

Only In His Dreams got a great review over at EH's. Check it out:

Updates On a Tuesday

Okay, so I haven't yet finished Kevin's Interlude story that I will be posting on the blog. I thought I'd get it done over the weekend but well...I didn't. Within the week it will be posted.

Thanks again for the birthday wishes.

I did get a message from Shayne who very sweetly signed on just to wish me happy birthday. He says his fever isn't quite as bad so he hopes that means he is on the mend. I know he has another doctor's appointment on Wednesday where the doctor will evaluate whether or not he has made any improvement. I know both Jack and Shayne are hoping to avoid him having to be hospitalized. A big hug and kiss to Josh too for keeping me updated on Shayne while Jack has been busy caring for him.

Now that the birthday is over, I need to get back to work. As you all know I have a lot of stories I need to finish, not the least of which is the fourth and final Only story, His One and Only.

45 Today

This is one of those days where I don't have much to report. I took today off from the evil day job since it's my 45th birthday. Still not sure how that happened so fast. But as they say...turning another year older is better than the alternative.

The first three months have not improved over 2009 yet but I am still holding out hope that it will get better.

Anyway, I didn't get anything much written over the weekend. I was incredibly lazy and uninspired. Still waiting to see my cover for Only In His Heart and I am still waiting to hear where Pieces will land. And still waiting for news that Shayne has improved. I am hoping to get that news soon. Waiting. I do hate waiting.

Because it's my birthday I am having cream filled donuts for breakfast. Yep. LOL. Later tonight I'll be going to dinner with friends. Tomorrow it is back to reality.

I hope everyone has a decent week and thanks again for all your well wishes for Shayne. I know he would appreciate it if he was able to see them.

My BFF

Can everyone do me a huge favor and keep Shayne in their thoughts and prayers? He's quite sick and has only gotten worse rather than better. I would really appreciate it.

Excerpt - Only His Heart by Shawn Lane

“I’m starved. How about you?” Matt asked as he picked up his stained menu. “Says here Benji’s has been here since nineteen forty-two.”

“Yes, I think the menus are original.”

The waitress, a middle-aged skinny African-American woman named Betty came up to their booth. “Coffee?”

“That would be great,” Matt said enthusiastically.

“Don’t bet on it. Tea. Green, if you have it.”

Betty looked down her nose at him. “Dr. Lassiter, you know we don’t have that.”

“I haven’t given up hope that if I request it enough times you’ll get a clue and start carrying it.”

“Don’t bet on it,” she mocked him. “Lipton?”

He sighed. “Yes.”

“Be right back.”

Matt studied him curiously. “They seem to know you here.”

“Twenty-four hour diner near a hospital. Yeah, everyone comes here at some point. They’ll know you before long, too.”

“What are you going to have, Dr. Lassiter?” Matt pushed a strand of his jaw-length hair behind his ear.

“You may as well call me Calvin.”

“Oh, okay.” Matt grinned.

“Outside of the hospital anyway.” He didn’t expect to see much of Matt outside the hospital, of course. “The one egg breakfast with bacon.”

“I think I’m going to have the Big Man breakfast.”

Calvin wasn’t the least bit surprised. The Big Man, which had been offered at Benji’s for many decades, consisted of three eggs, bacon and sausage, hash browns, and pancakes. “You must work out if you eat like that every day.”

Matt nodded. “I do and I don’t. Meaning, I do work out, but I don’t eat like that every day.”

Betty returned with their drinks and took their orders.

Matt sipped his coffee and grimaced. “Not the best.”

“You’ll learn to order tea.”

“How long have you been at the hospital?”

“Four years counting my residency.” Calvin added a packet of honey to his tea, thoughtfully brought by Betty who remembered he drank it that way.

“Lucky. I’ve been trying to get in here for months.” He grimaced again and added a big dollop of cream and several packets of sugar. “I liked the hospital I was working at before, but I moved to Glendale and it was getting to be too much of a commute.”

Calvin vaguely recalled most of Nathan’s family lived south of Los Angeles, including his stepbrother, and he wanted to ask Matt why he moved from Orange County to the Los Angeles area, but since he’d told Matt he didn’t discuss his private life, he could hardly be nosey with the man.

“This is a great hospital with a terrific reputation. I can see why you’d want to work here.”

“Definitely. You working tonight?”

“No. I’ve got the next few days off. I’ve got some sleeping to catch up on.”

“Yeah, and I’ll bet your boyfriend misses you,” Matt said with a sly look.

Calvin couldn’t help but smile just a little at his not so covert attempt to get the information he wanted out of Calvin. “I don’t have a boyfriend.”

“Oh.” Matt pretended to look mildly curious. He could tell it was a pretense. “I’m pretty sure Barnaby or Nathan said you were gay, though. Right?”

He could see the man just wasn’t going to quit until he admitted his sexual orientation. “Yes, I am gay.”

Matt nodded, as though satisfied. “Beautiful man like you? I’m surprised you don’t have a significant other. What’s wrong with the men in Los Angeles?”

“I really don’t have time for a relationship anyway.”

Betty brought their breakfasts and refilled Matt’s coffee and his hot water. “Enjoy.”

Calvin mixed his over easy egg with his hash browns and added just a smidge of salt. He’d been blessed with perfect cholesterol. “What about you?”

“Well, actually, I did have a boyfriend. Moved up here from Orange County to be with him. Too bad he turned out to be a cheating jerk.” Matt shrugged. “I decided to stay here anyway, get a new start.”

“That’s too bad about your boyfriend.”

Matt smiled a little and dug into his breakfast. He chewed several bites before he spoke again. “You know you aren’t so bad.”

“Excuse me?”

The other man waved his fork. “You have sort of a reputation at the hospital.”

Calvin sighed. “Yes, I know.”

“If you know, well, why don’t you let them know you aren’t the prick they think you are?” Matt blushed. “Um, sorry.”

“Whatever. I know what they say about me. They aren’t quiet about it. I’m here to help patients who come in here with injuries or illnesses, often life-threatening. I don’t care about winning popularity contests.”

“Okay, I didn’t mean to upset you.”

“I’m not,” Calvin insisted. He’d never found it easy to make friends. In fact, he could count on one hand how many people were actually close to him. Most of the time it didn’t bother him.

“I’m glad you agreed to have breakfast with me anyway.” Matt pushed his mostly empty plate away and patted his stomach. “I’m stuffed. I’m going to go home and do some errands before I catch a few hours of sleep. I’ll be off for a couple days starting tomorrow.”

Calvin picked up the check Betty had left. He pulled out his wallet and left several dollars for the tip. “I’ve got this.”

“Oh, hey, thanks, but I didn’t mean for you to pay,” Matt protested.

“Forget it.” Calvin moved across the booth and stood.

After he paid, they headed outside. Calvin looked at the overcast sky.

“Looks like rain maybe later,” Matt said.

“Yes. Well, see you later.”

“Matt.”

Calvin frowned. “What?”

Matt stepped into Calvin’s personal space. The bastard was taller than him, too. His face was so close his hot breath brushed Calvin’s cheek as he dipped his head to speak. “I want to hear you say my name.”

Calvin laughed. “Please.”

Matt grinned. “Okay, please, Matt. It sounds even better.”

He backed up a step, but Matt pursued him. “Get real.”

“Come on. If you want me to go, you have to say it.”

Calvin glared and tried to move away, but Matt’s hand closed over his forearm. “Fine. Please, Matt.”

Excerpt - Another Chance by Shawn Lane

“Rothton.”

Aubrey turned to see Daniel coming toward him. He took a step back.

“Where’s your coach?”

“I didn’t bring one,” Aubrey admitted.

Daniel nodded. “Mine’s not far. I’ll give you a ride. Come on.”

“Are you sure you want to take another carriage ride with me?”

Daniel’s eyes widened. His cheeks pinked.

Shut up, Aubrey. Lord, why don’t you keep your mouth shut?

“I would like a ride, thank you.”

Daniel nodded stiffly and Aubrey felt like kicking himself. He followed Daniel to his carriage though and they took seats opposite from each other, waiting in the long line to move away from Maribel’s house.

“Look, I really think we should talk,” Daniel said after a moment. “Would you be agreeable to coming to my home?

Aubrey forced himself not to shout yes. Over eagerness would probably scare Graystone away. Something he definitely did not want to do.

“All right,” he replied, forcing calm into his tone.

He stared across the coach, trying to will himself not to move to sit next to Daniel. He wanted to. Hell, he couldn’t even blame drunkenness this time. He’d only had the one glass at the ball. But Aubrey was absolutely compelled to get closer to Daniel. Turning toward the window, he blew out a heavy breath.

Aubrey tugged at his cravat and closed his eyes. If he didn’t look at Daniel he could fight the temptation. He heard movement from the seat across from him. Daniel shifting in his seat.

“Aubrey,” his name spoken softly right next to his ear. Aubrey opened his eyes to see Daniel very close. Before he could react, Daniel’s lips came down on his. The kiss was tentative at first, Aubrey supposed Daniel expected to be rebuffed. He wrapped his arms around Daniel and pulled him closer, slipping his tongue in between Daniel’s slightly parted lips.

At any moment, Daniel could come to his senses and Aubrey had to make sure that didn’t happen. Keeping his lips locked with Daniel’s, Aubrey loosened his cravat, desperate to touch skin. He exposed Daniel’s throat and stroked it with his fingertips.

“Ah,” Daniel gasped against his mouth. “Aubrey.”

Aubrey plunged his tongue deeper and kissed him hard, pushing him down on the cushion. His hands roamed under Daniel’s coat, caressing his crisp white dress shirt, looking for a way in to touch naked skin.

Then Daniel cupped his hard cock through his trousers.

“Oh God!”

Aubrey’s breath hitched and his gaze went to Daniel’s long fingers which were tugging at the fastenings of his trousers. He swallowed.

“Um, Daniel,” he managed to say around their kiss.

Daniel broke the kiss and stared at him, a question in his passion-blazed blue eyes.

“I…just wanted to point out that with us being in a coach and all, a moving one at that, we might be better off waiting to go further when we reach our destination.” Aubrey prayed Daniel wouldn’t back off from the idea of having sex. He really did. But he didn’t relish having the Graystone driver opening the door to them fucking either.

Daniel blinked and then straightened in the seat. “Damnation. You’re right. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be, I’m not. But for what I have in mind I don’t want to be interrupted.”

Daniel nodded. “I’ll…go back to my seat now.”

Aubrey mourned the loss of the warm body next to his but agreed it was perhaps for the best.

Daniel laughed, glancing down at his own trousers. His arousal was plainly evident. “I’m afraid I won’t be able to hide this.”

Aubrey grinned. “Don’t worry, I just need a private room without fear of interruption and I’ll take care of that.”

Daniel sighed and leaned his head back on the seat. “Do you think this is wise?”

“Probably not,” Aubrey admitted. “But it’s what I want.”

Daniel didn’t reply at first. In fact, Aubrey didn’t think he would respond. Just as the coach slowed to a stop, Daniel shifted.

“Me too. Let’s go talk.”

Two Excerpts

Since I like to please everyone and no one else has spoken up, I am going to two excerpts today.

Updates and Questions For You

So I’ve been trying to come up with a topic for the blog. Things have been slow this week. I have no real news and my next book doesn’t come out until April.

I’m not even sure what I will post as Saturday’s excerpt. Any requests or suggestions?

Haven’t even received bff news. Someone (who shall remain nameless but he’s very close to Shayne) was supposed to be keeping me informed more often.

Anyway, so here is what I have come up with. Some questions about your significant others or what you would do if you had one if you don’t at the moment.

This concerns forgiving. What would you forgive from your SO.?

1) During a moment of illness, your SO throws up all over you. In your opinion, your SO had time to avoid barfing directly on you, but they didn’t and now you are very grossed out. Would you forgive them or is this something that would turn you off from them pretty much forever?

2) Your SO is away on business and during a lull heads to a bar in his/her hotel. They meet someone interesting and attractive who they end up flirting with a bit and that person suggests they go to the hotel restaurant for dinner. Your SO agrees. Afterwards, the person implies they should hook up for something more, but your SO explains that while the evening was enjoyable and the other person is attractive, they are already in a committed relationship. Your SO tells you about the evening. Would it bother you that your SO went on a “date”?

3) You and your lover have been having problems and are arguing a lot. At some point, you suggest that perhaps it would be better to spend some time apart. Your lover agrees, reluctantly. They don’t like the idea but you think it would be best. After a couple of days you realize it was a mistake and you miss them like crazy. When you prepare to get back with your lover, you learn that during your brief separation, your lover had sex with someone else. Would you forgive them?

4) You aren’t the world’s best cook but you aren’t the worst ever either. One day at a party you overhear your SO joking with friends about how bad your cooking is and that they think you must be trying to poison them. Everyone laughs. Are you hurt or are you laughing with everyone else?

5) You’ve been with your SO for several years and thought you knew everything about them. One day some beautiful creature (he or she) shows up at your front door claiming to be an ex of your SO from years ago and they just wanted to say hello since they were in town. Your SO isn’t home and you send the person away. Your SO never told you about this relationship. Would this bother you?

6) You’ve been having money problems and have discussed the need to cut back on expenses with your lover. Just a few days later you come home and your lover is showing you the expensive pair of designer jeans they just had to have because they looked so fantastic on them. Do you confront them on this extravagance?

That’s all I can think of now. Have fun answering the questions.

Kevin

Kevin has been talking to me lately which probably means he's due for another free story on the blog soon. So, keep your eye out for that. I suspect it will be within the next couple of weeks, quite possibly sooner.

Nothing New-Here's an Excerpt

Having unfortunately no news, here is an excerpt from the first released Shawn Lane story, The Squire. Just in case you haven't read it yet.

William knew he would need to force himself to take it
slow with Duncan. He had suspected the squire was virginal,
which was why he stroked them both to their first release. If
he hadn’t done that, he would have pounced, likely scaring
Duncan half to death.

So he’d listened to his instincts and now the boy lay naked
on his back in William’s bed, ready and willing. The dark
mass of curls on his head hung partially in his brown eyes. His
tongue kept licking his bottom lip, making his slightly pouty
mouth look decidedly kissable. William would spend all night
kissing and nipping those lips. Among other parts of Duncan.
He took a moment to gaze at the squire’s naked form.

Being nearly nine years younger than William, Duncan didn’t
have the well-defined muscles he did. Over the years, William
fought many a tournament and even more battles. The
broadsword he wielded gave him great strength in his biceps.
Duncan’s young body was slim for the most part, with a hint
of muscle in his arms and legs. He did have a large cock
which rose with interest as William studied it.

“Is…is something wrong?” Duncan asked softly.

“Nay, I wanted to look upon you for a moment. You are
beautiful.”

Duncan blushed deep red. “Women are beautiful. I am no
female.”

William laughed. “Make no mistake, Duncan. I am well
aware of your gender. But you are wrong. Men can be
beautiful. Do you not find me pleasant to look upon?”

The squire nodded eagerly.

“Well, then, you see. There is no shame in being good to
look at. Brush your locks out of your eyes,” he ordered.
Duncan obeyed instantly. He liked how the young man
was eager to please.

“Stroke yourself for me, Duncan.”

The squire bit at his lip. “But I want you to touch me.”

“Do not concern yourself with that. I will touch you all
night.”

Wednesday Musings

I'm not really sure waiting is the hardest part, but it's definitely no fun.

I wish I had a magic writing wand that I could use to zap all the books I plan to write finished.

People's cruelty sometimes takes my breath away.

One day we'll be together, yes we will

Spring is so here in Southern Cal. 70s and 80s and clear and beautiful

Morro Bay is calling to my soul and unfortunately I am unable to answer

If you can't sleep, should you lay in bed anyway or get up and be productive?

People's generosity sometimes takes my breath away

No News Tuesday

Well I wish I had news to report but I do not. I am in limbo mode at the moment.

Waiting on cover art, contract offers, releases, news of bff. Just waiting.

Well, that isn't entirely true. I did hear from Jack this morning and Shayne is still quite sick. They had to increase his medicine. Hopefully he will improve very soon.

I got about 600 words or so done yesterday on His One and Only which takes me past 6000 words. Since the story will be at least twice that you can see I still have my work cut out for me. Fortunately I don't have any specific deadline for this but of course the sooner I can finish the sooner I can get a release date and the series will be concluded. I'll have the four stories in print at that point or shortly thereafter for anyone interested.

I've had mostly positive reaction from Only in His Dreams. As I said I think Barnaby will end up being quite popular when his book comes out next month. I have two coming in April so that's pretty cool.

Other than that, I am afraid I am boring today.

Alas a New Week Begins

Thanks to everyone who read and enjoyed Only in His Dreams. I hope those who still have it in their to be read lists will enjoy it when they get to it.

Here's a picture for you.

Now that I am in wait mode to learn the fate of Pieces, I am going back to the fourth book in the Only Forever series, His One and Only.

Hope everyone has a decent week. It's my last week at 44.

New Release - Only In His Dreams

Normally I reserve Sundays for eye candy but since I have a release today I thought I would change it up a bit. Only in His Dreams is available right now for $3.00.

In other news, I finished my angst-filled, Pieces, and have submitted it to a publisher for consideration. As soon as I have news I'll post here. This is basically a story I began last year and then dropped it. Recently I had the urge to take it up again and I wrote the rest pretty quickly. Ava liked it a lot so we'll see what the publisher says. It was nice to finish a story I had originally tackled last year.

Excerpt Day - Only His Heart by Shawn Lane

Since I don't have a cover for the third book in the series, enjoy this picture.

This is the third book in the Only Forever series. Calvin and Matt's story. Calvin is Barnaby's brother. You'll meet him in Book 2, Barnaby's story.

Enjoy!

Jabbing his finger into the speed dial number, Matt waited, breath held as he listened to the rings.

“Dr. Lassiter.”

Matt swallowed, his heart hammering. “Calvin, this is Matt. Matt Walton.”

No response.

His palms sweating, he cleared his throat. “Are you there?”

“Yes. How did you get my number?”

“Nathan.”

“Ah. Okay, what is it?”

“I was wondering…I’m off today.”

“I remember.”

Matt laid down. He thought maybe it would help. “Want to maybe go somewhere with me?”

Smooth, Matt.

“Where?”

Okay, that was not a no. “Um, dinner?”

Matt could hear a sort or rustling on the other end and he was dreading Calvin saying no. He just knew he was going to. And probably with some lame excuse like he was washing his hair. He prepared himself for the disappointment.

“What time?”

He sat up straight. “What time?”

“Yes.”

“I can pick you up at six. If you give me your address that is.”

“Well—”

“I have a car, too. I’ll bring it,” he said quickly.

“All right.”

Matt barely had time to scramble to find a pen before Calvin was rattling off his address. “What do you like to eat?”

“I’m good with just about anything.”

“Chinese?”

“All right. See you at six.”

Matt smiled as he disconnected the call. Calvin had actually agreed.
* * *

Matt pulled into the end of the driveway at Calvin’s modest suburban home. The good doc lived on a cozy little cul-de-sac.

He’d agonized just a bit on what to wear to his first official first date with Calvin and ultimately decided on black slacks and a navy polo shirt along with his bomber jacket. He’d lined his eye with navy eyeliner.

When the door opened to reveal his date, Matt stared, more than a little in awe. Really, he didn’t think he’d seen a man more attractive, more beautiful than Calvin. Calvin had dressed in navy pants similar in style to his own slacks, but he wore a button down navy pin-striped shirt opened at the throat. A sexy gold rope chain lay against the creamy expanse of his throat.

But when he tore his gaze away from that, it was Calvin’s too blue eyes framed by delicate gold lashes that made his breath hitch and his knees weak. And those…lips. Matt didn’t know how long he could resist those plump, kissable lips.

“Hello.”

Matt smiled, exhaling to calm the rapid beat of his heart. “You look fantastic.”

Calvin blushed. “Um, thanks. Let me get my coat.” He returned in just a few seconds shrugging into an Armani coat.

“Wow, nice coat.”

His date shrugged. “A Christmas gift from my grandmother. I think she got it on eBay.” Calvin stepped outside and turned to lock his front door.

When he turned around, Matt crushed his mouth over Calvin’s, unable to resist trying out those lips one second longer. They were the softest, tastiest damn lips he’d ever kissed. He pulled away before Calvin had time to protest too much.

“Sorry,” he said, not sorry at all. “I’ve just been wanting those since I first saw you in the cafeteria.”

Calvin didn’t answer but his lips did turn up just a bit in a small smile. When they reached his car, he raised an eyebrow. “You? A Mercedes?”

He laughed. “I know. It was my stepdad’s. He upgraded and it’s older, so he gave it to me. I rarely ever drive it because the motorcycle gets better mileage and it’s more my image.”

“Definitely,” Calvin agreed. “But there was no way I was going to ride on it.”

“I know. All right, let’s be off.”

It's Friday

My bff, Shayne, isn’t feeling well again. So well wishes and love to him.

Only In His Dreams comes out sometime this weekend. Not sure when or what day as Amber Quill releases it at their whim. I hope those who buy it will enjoy the first one of the series.

The winner, whoever, they may be, will need to email me their email address @ authorshawnlane@gmail.com so I can send them their book on Sunday. PDF is usually what I send but I can send just about any other format besides print.

Today I will be working madly on the final sex scene for Pieces. I’ll be out most of the day on Saturday. Not sure yet what I will post for tomorrow’s excerpt. I’ll also be blogging at Amber Quill’s blog about the Only series.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

How Long Becomes Too Long

So, I have been pondering something in the back of my brain for a while now that has lately come closer to the surface. Or the front or something.

How long are readers willing to wait for a sequel?

Originally, when I wrote The Other Side, I did not envision a direct sequel. I thought of writing Ray’s brother’s story, Tempted to Taste. But then there were comments I saw about unresolved issues in The Other Side and I had an idea of where I could take a sequel. And I couldn’t write Tempted to Taste before the sequel to The Other Side, could I?

But then as happens to me, I got other ideas for stories I wanted to work on and I kept pushing aside the sequel in favor of other stories. The problem being, I mentioned I would eventually do a sequel so that creates reader expectations, doesn’t it?

But as I have come into 2010 and more ideas take precedence over the sequel to The Other Side, I stop and realize it’s now been over a year since The Other Side came out.

Commitments I have since made mean I couldn’t possibly get to the sequel until late summer, early fall, which probably would put it close to the end of 2010 and nearly two years after the release of The Other Side. This seems like, to me anyway, readers will be at the point they will hardly care.

Now, I could conceivably drop the direct sequel and make Tempted to Taste the book I started in the late summer, early fall and cover some of the unresolved issues of The Other Side in Tempted to Taste.

So, I guess where this is going is, what does everyone think? Is there a point where a promised or hinted-at sequel is no longer relevant and you just don’t care anymore?

Keep in mind the following stories are higher priority for my schedule right now: Pieces (the one I am finishing soon), His One and Only, The Beach House, Twice in a Lifetime.

I also need to do Sorcerer’s Lover 3 which was always intended to be a 3 part series. In addition, Waking the Prince, my fairytale, needs to be finished, and I need to work on my co-authored book with Ava March, AND my own Regency m/m historical, Undeniable. And there is still my cop partners story, Never the One.

I know from comments from Sharon she wants the sequel to The Other Side. So on the other hand, if a promised sequel never materializes do you as readers feel cheated?

Wednesday Musings

I wish I had a million dollars

I'm going through bff withdrawls

This weekend will be fun, I'm going on a shopping spree!

Josh and Patrick...heroes coming to a publisher near you.

Creme-filled donuts are better than hot fudge poptarts any day!

I could totally watch a certain pretty boy model with another pretty boy model all day long. Really.

I'm starting to think I will never write every story I claim to be writing, lol

Waiting for cover art sucks

I wish all my buddies lived near me so we could all go to one big massive DINNER (not supper) together. Wouldn't that be fun?

You Know How I Feel About Tuesdays

A couple reminders first.

Don’t forget to enter to win Only In His Dreams being released this weekend.

Don’t forget to send me any questions you have for Ashtyn. A few of you have but not as many as I thought would.

The work-in-progress is going pretty well, I think. My intention is to have it done no later than the end of March and hopefully before. Then I will be sending it off for review.

His One and Only, the fourth and final story in my only series, is on temporary hold while I finish the story noted above. Once it’s off I will finish His One and Only.

Most of you are aware my bff is Shayne. He has been strongly suggesting an idea for a story that he would very much like to see me write. I am afraid I indulged him and agreed to do it.

Now I don’t know whether you are aware, but Amber Quill’s Allure line has opened for submissions for certain themes. The information can be found on the website but one of the themes is Hot Summer Daze and is supposed to involve summer love affairs (that become much more). The story Shayne wants me to write fit in well here, therefore, I will be releasing a story as part of the series and my story is called, The Beach House.

I will provide more details as to content later when I begin to write it.

Only In His Dreams - Giveaway

Time for a giveaway. As many of you know, my first release of 2010 arrives this coming weekend. Only In His Dreams is the first release in the Only Forever series.

Below is the official Blurb:

Shy, conservative Darrell Lincoln has worked hard to get his job as billing manager for the law firm of Anderson, Llewellyn, and Stevens. For a conscientious worker like Darrell, the job is perfect except for one thing. He has a big-time crush on one of the partners, Travis Anderson. Darrell thinks a gorgeous, wealthy, hotshot lawyer like Travis would be interested in a guy like him only in his dreams.

Lonely after the death of his longtime partner, Travis isn’t the dashing, smooth playboy Darrell imagines him to be. In reality he’s just as interested in Darrell.

Both men are after the same thing—each other. Their relationship is the stuff of dreams...until Travis meets Darrell’s not-so-welcoming family.

Can Darrell convince Travis he’s still his dream man?

And the official Excerpt:

...Darrell couldn’t remember the last time he’d enjoyed an evening like this. They’d watched all the various Die Hard movies, laughing and commenting throughout them. They’d switched to beers and he’d made popcorn. Really he hadn’t wanted the night to end. At least Travis wasn’t going home.

But Darrell had always been a cautious man. Starting anything, even casual sex with Travis, could get complicated. Since the firm was Travis’s, if something bad happened between them it would be Darrell who’d be forced to find new employment.

That didn’t stop him from wanting to bend Travis over the sofa and fucking him deep and slow.

Forcing the tempting thoughts from his mind before it gave him an obvious boner, Darrell stood and glanced at the clock. Nearly one in the morning. “The spare room is all set up. The sheets are clean and I left a pair of pajamas in there for you if you’d like to change. They should fit well enough for you to sleep in them anyway.”

Travis stood and stretched, his rumpled white dress shirt straining across his biceps and abs. His mouth dry, Darrell stared openly. He’d found white guys attractive before, though he hadn’t pursued it, but never like this. Every move Travis made riveted him. Every curve of his sensual, slightly plump lips fascinated him.

“Great,” Travis said. “I’m bushed.”

He let Travis go in front of him down the hall toward the bedrooms, unabashedly gawking at the man’s perfect round ass. Really, his resolve to take things slow with Travis began to waiver. Maybe just a goodnight kiss would satisfy him. After all it had been sort of a date.

Travis turned to him as they reached the spare room, a small smile on his lips, and before he could lose his nerve, Darrell pushed him against the wall and ground his mouth over Travis’s, squelching the man’s gasp of surprise.

As soon as their chests melded together, as soon as his hands slid up Travis’s arms, as soon as his pelvis fitted against Travis’s, Darrell knew the goodnight kiss had been a mistake. Or the idea that it would satiate him had been anyway. His dick was so hard he thought it might tear through both his briefs and his slacks.

Travis moaned low and opened his mouth to allow the intrusion of Darrell’s tongue. For just a minute, second really, Darrell intended to pull away and return to his original plan, but then Travis’s hand crept between their bodies and cupped his erection.
Fuck.

And that’s just what he intended to do. He tore his mouth away with effort and asked the burning question in his feverish mind. “Do you top, bottom or both?”

It sometimes broke the flow of things, Darrell knew, but it was a question that would ultimately need to be asked.

Travis blinked, his sky blue eyes glazed with passion mixed with confusion. “Both,” he finally said.

Thank God.

“Great.” His lips returned to Travis’s now plumped lips from his kisses and he reached to the man’s pants to undo the zipper. His heart nearly stopped when he remembered he didn’t have the goods. “Damn it,” he growled.

“What?”

“You don’t happen to have a condom and lube, do you? Or even just the rubber will do.”

Travis’s cheeks reddened. “Um, no.”

“Well, damn. I don’t have condoms or lube.” Until that moment he hadn’t needed the supplies well…for a very long time. It was way too late to visit a store. He knew of a drug store nearby that was open all night but—

“Darrell.” Travis’s hand stroked his jaw, turning his attention back to the object of his lust. He raised a blond brow. “We still have our hands.”

Darrell grinned. “We sure do.” His fingers, which had stilled on the zipper of Travis’s pants, now got moving again. He quickly took care of the zipper, and pushed the offending garments, both pants and boxers, down far enough and closed his hand around the man’s large erect cock.

“Ah, God.” Travis closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the wall, breathing heavy. His long golden lashes resting on his pink-tinged cheeks was one of the sexiest things Darrell had ever seen. His cock pulsed in his own pants, reminding him it wanted some necessary attention, too...

If you want the chance to win, just comment on the post.

Excerpt - Only In His Dreams by Shawn Lane

As promised here is the excerpt from March 14th's release, Only In His Dreams. This is a bit of a teaser for Barnaby and Nathan whose relationship is covered in April's Only For Him.

Travis, sitting behind his desk the next morning, handed the bills as well as the promotion letter to Barnaby Lassiter, his young admin assistant. Barnaby had been standing next to his desk for several minutes, fidgeting. He doubted the younger man knew how to stand still.

Barnaby shifted from one foot to the other and back again and then popped his gum. “Is that it?”

Travis looked up, noticing for the first time the plum blush Barnaby had splashed across his normally pale white cheeks and the matching plum lip gloss lining his lips. And then, of course, there was the eyeliner. He blinked. The dyed blond hair looked freshly done and a new salon style to it.

He cleared his throat. “Weren’t you sick yesterday?”

“Uh-huh.”

Travis gestured to Barnaby’s hair.

“Just cause I’m sick doesn’t mean I don’t need to look good, boss man.”

“Right.” Travis nodded. It was a good thing Barnaby was damn good at his job. He handed the last document to his admin. “The first stack goes to Darrell and the last one to Mary.”

There was a short knock on the door and then it opened to reveal Nathan. He carried a file in his right hand and a white paper sack in the other. Nathan’s thick glasses had slipped down his long nose. After he pushed them up, his gaze briefly rested on Barnaby, before sliding away. He cleared his throat. “Sorry to interrupt.”

“You’re not. We’re finished.” He waved Barnaby away.

The blond sauntered over to the door to his office where Nathan still stood lingering in the doorway. “Good morning, Mr. Llewellyn.”

Eyes downcast, Nathan mumbled, “Morning.”

Barnaby disappeared beyond the door and to Travis’s surprise, Nathan stuck his head around the corner to peer outside the office in the direction the young admin had gone.

“Something you want to tell me?”

Nathan walked in and closed the door, his face red. “What?”

“Have you got the hots for Barnaby?”

“What? No? Barnaby? No way. He’s so…so—”

“Cute?” Travis supplied neutrally.

“Yes. No. Sort of.” Nathan shrugged. “He’s not my type. Here, I brought you a bagel and cream cheese to make up for forgetting your birthday.” He thrust the bag at Travis and sat in the chair in front of the desk.

Travis had to admit that his admin assistant was hot, but he reminded him of Alan. He had adored Alan, but the last thing he wanted was another boyfriend like Alan. Never mind the secretary aspect. “So, you’ve no interest in him at all?”

“God, no. Never.” The redness in his cheeks had deepened. He held up the file he’d brought with him. “I wanted to ask your opinion about the Peck case.”

* * *
Darrell didn’t even have to turn around to know who was standing behind his chair, even before the dramatic sigh announced his arrival. He could smell Barnaby several feet away. Or rather Barnaby’s expensive cologne
.
He turned to face Travis’s assistant. Barnaby flashed him a smile he was sure had been used on many a sucker. “Good morning.”

“Hi there.” Barnaby leaned on the cubicle wall. “I was told to give you these.” He handed a thick stack of papers to Darrell. “And also this.”

Darrell took the plain envelope from Barnaby. His name was neatly scrolled on it.

“Congratulations, D. The promotion is well deserved.”

“Thank you.” He stared at Barnaby when he noticed the man wasn’t leaving. “Anything else?”

“I was wondering if you’d like to have lunch with me today.”

“Lunch? Well, I…that’s probably not a good idea.” Darrell fidgeted with his letter. He didn’t want to hurt Barnaby’s feeling or anything, but he really didn’t see anything between them.

Barnaby rolled his eyes. “It’s just lunch, D. With a co-worker. We’re not going to have an afternoon delight or anything.” He gestured to the letter. “And since you’re rich and all, you can buy.”

“Me?”

“Yep.” Barnaby glanced at his watch. “I’ll come by your desk at eleven-thirty. Don’t worry, I know your car’s in the shop so I’ll drive us.”

Friday Updates

So, I didn’t get quite as much done Thursday on the current wip. Understandable given the day. Still I got about 500 words.

Monday I will begin the giveaway for Only In His Dreams. Wow, does it seem like forever since I had a release? It does to me. I’m excited to finally have a release coming up. As you know, Only In His Dreams is the first story in my Only series.

Saturday’s excerpt will be from Only In His Dreams but I think I am going to use the one that gives you a taste of Barnaby and Nate from Only For Him, coming in April.

Not sure who will appear as candy yet on Sunday. I’ll find something.

Sad Day

Longer followers will remember me talking about Tiffin and her cancer. We were able to keep us with her for a few more months but today less than half an hour ago the vet and I were forced to conclude she was in pain. We made the very hard decision to release her from that pain.

I had fifteen years with her and she really is irreplaceable.

We, and that includes her brother, aka Buster, will miss her very much.

Smokin'

I have been smoking hot writing on my latest WIP (ask Ava) and I am way pleased with the progress! And no I won't say which one right now. It's a secret. Let's just say it's loaded with angst. Just what I need to write at the moment.

Wednesday Musings

Recently, my bff has been whispering ideas in my ear. Well, the equivalent of that anyway. I want to smack him because as most of you know I don’t need any more ideas. Yet, the worse part is the idea he suggests is intriguing to me.

I think there are some people in my life I care about more than they care about me.

You can write the best book you’ve ever written with the greatest characters you’ve ever imagined that receives all kinds of sales and compliments and fans and there will still be someone out there who thinks you suck.

Car alarms going off at 2AM make me want to murder someone.

It’s fun to be writing angst again. Yep, I said it.

Mean people suck.

There’s nothing you can know that isn’t known.

Today is bound to be a better day!

March Has Arrived

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was a mixed bag.

Friday night was good because I watched one of my favorite movies and cried. Saturday was cool because it was spent with family and friends.

Sunday…not so much. I was depressed and feeling sorry for myself. I got pretty much nothing done except laundry and a short trip to the store. Probably not a good idea to drive as I was in a bit of a fog, too. I watched movies and television and convinced myself I never wanted to write again.

I don’t have those days often but Sunday was one of them. I'm better now. I hope the rest of the week is a little brighter.

Oddly enough when I went to change my hottie calendar (I forget the actual name but it’s full of hot men) to March there was Ashtyn. This very picture. Small world. Had no idea Ashtyn was there for my birth month.

I’m feeling old. I’ll be 45 this month. Originally I thought about getting a tattoo to mark the day but now I am beginning to chicken out.

Have a good week.
