Latest Story Updates April 2017

The Sutter's Bay series will be coming soon as a boxed eBook set with JMS Books. So look for that, later this month, I think.

In other news, I am in the process of contracting several more orphaned AQ stories. These include The Squire, Sorcerer's Lover and Sorcerer's Lover 2, Waking the Prince, Admiring Jesse, Jake's Regret, The Other Side, Needing Seth, Manfred's Curse, and Unobtainable.

There are still a few that haven't found a home and I'm not certain I will be pursuing re-publication for these at this point. I never say never though.

Pulling Away and Pulling Apart, have to be technically run through Loose Id as they are connected to Car Wash, which they currently have the rights to. Right now I don't have any intention of offering them to Loose Id, so they remain unavailable.

Other AQ stories that I have have no plans for are: Hitting It Big, Lost Between, The Impostor, The Best Gift, Still the One, A Knight for All, and It's Only Make Believe. I think that's about it for my former AQ catalog.

I still have zero news on the stories orphaned by the closure of Ellora's Cave, which are, of course, Perfect Man, Trust, Another Chance, Wanting Sam, and um, the Topaz book. I forget the name right now. Sorry.

There were a few free stories I had on All Romance eBooks that are no longer out there as well, including two Christmas stories, Last Christmas and The Naughty Ones. I might some day get those up on Amazon. We will see.

And finally, I am working on a new story but I am not pushing myself to work on it too fast so I have no clue when I will get it finished nor who it will go to. It involves a Hollywood actor and a nurse.

Waking the Prince Contest

You know I generally have a giveaway for a release and this is no different.

Waking the Prince releases on November 18th from Amber Allure and I am super excited about it. This is my gay take on Sleeping Beauty and I started this story more than a couple of years ago and so I was thrilled to take part in the Fairytale pax which encouraged me to finish it. My sleeping beauty, Prince Roland, is a very active participant in rescuing the kingdom from an evil sorcerer.

So, as I think you may have noticed, I am handling contests a bit differently now. In the past, I would have people comment, which sometimes when they would be chosen, would never give me their email address, but I think probably some people are uncomfortable supplying their email addresses on a blog. This way by having entrants email me, I already have that information and it remains private.

Anyway, so send me an email at authorshawnlane@gmail.com if you'd like to enter (include format choice or I will assume pdf is all right). Contest ends November 16, 2012.

Release Updates

I'm very happy Obama was re-elected. Now onto some writing related news and updates.

2012 Releases

Coming up on November 18, 2012 from Amber Quill Press is my fairytale inspired romance, Waking the Prince. It was inspired by Sleeping Beauty, my favorite fairytale.

I believe my Christmas story, There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays, will be released from MLR Press on December 06, 2012.

Loving the Partner, my third and final Romance on the Go story from the Loving series with Evernight Publishing  is due to be released sometime in December 2012. I'll let you know when I have a firm date.

2013 Releases

I finished the next installment of the His series, Gratefully His, and it is due out January 06, 2013 from Amber Quill Press. I am not sure when the "H" in the series will get written. Gratefully His is a standalone and can be read without reading any of the rest of the series.

Also coming from Amber Quill Press I believe on February 10, 2013, is my Valentine's Day romance, Admiring Jessse. I'm working on it now and it's going really well.

Taking a Break

I have finished my fairytale Sleeping Beauty story, Waking the Prince, a month early. Go me! This is part of a group of MM fairytales with four other writers so I am not sure of the exact release date at this time.

I started this story, to be honest, a long time ago. Probably years ago, with a particular publisher in mind who was going to do a theme of fairytales. I never finished it and it languished on my hard drive. In all honesty I am not sure I would have ever finished it except that Amber Quill decided to do a fairytale pax and I remembered my Waking the Prince story and volunteered for it. I'm glad I did now because I really love Prince Roland and his warrior, Magnus.

Now with my having finished Waking the Prince and turned it in (release date to be determined later), that is the last of my stories that will release in 2012. And so begins my basically two month writing vacation. Yes, you read that right. From now until October 01, I am on a writing vacation.

Here's the thing. Though release-wise I am still down from other years I have been writing a lot. I worked on One More Time coming from Loose Id this month for the first part of the year. Then I saw the antho call from Evernight and decided to do a story for that, Getting Wade. Then I saw the submission call from MLR Press for a Christmas story. I'd been wanting to submit there for a while and that seemed the perfect opportunity, so I wrote There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays. Then I remembered I really needed to write Leo's story in the Sutter's Bay series and so I wrote Finding Forever. And then out of the blue I decided to write Maybe This Time.

I've been writing, writing, writing, and my brain is tired. It needs a recharge. Which is hard for me. Because I have other stories I need to write, including more Sutter's Bay stories, maybe more His stories, definitely a trilogy, my cop story, and other stories that come to me all the time. I can't turn them off. And I can't really say I won't write anything during those two months, but I'm going to do my best not to get crazy.

I have a couple of real vacations in that time and so the timing is perfect for me to relax. I plan to read, watch movies, play in paradise, play in sin city, play some role playing video games (used to love these but don’t have much time these days), just all kinds of lovely things. I am greatly looking forward to not feeling like I just have to have something done. I deserve this break.

When October 01 arrives I will begin work on my planned trilogy in earnest as well as something else I have in the back of my constantly spinning mind. Anything written from October on will of course be released sometime in 2013.

This has been a very interesting year for me writing wise. While I’m still writing and producing work for Amber Quill I also expanded to include being published with Loose Id, MLR Press, and Evernight Publishing. Since I no longer publish with EC, Silver or DSP, I felt the need to branch out rather than have all my stories with one publisher. I look forward to a happy relationship with all my publishers in 2013.

I'll be checking in here of course as needed for information and releases and contests, etc.

Update Time

I've been doing plenty of writing lately and I am happy to advise that I have another story coming from Amber Allure. This one is called Maybe This Time and is due to be released September 23, 2012. I am now back to working on my fairytale, Waking the Prince, and I am expecting that will be out either October or November. I'll advise on that once I know.

And speaking of Ambure Allure, for the first time in its history they are opening up for general submissions. The information can be found here, Amber Allure Submissions. As someone who has been with them since 2008 I can tell you they are a great publisher. So if you are a new MM author or one looking to expand your publishers, check them out. I can also tell you that I have seen the test version of the new website and it promises to be really cool when it goes live.

And finally, shortly Stumbling Over Chaos will be hosting a giveaway for Finding Forever, Sutter's Bay #4, but I will post here when the contest is up.

Monday, May 7, 2012

There's still time to send me an email if you want to be entered to win a print copy of my first six "His" stories. I'll let you know when the contest closes but it's open right now.

In other non-news I am still working on Finding Forever, (Sutter's Bay 4). Still crossing my fingers I can get it done by the end of May. It's been more of a struggle than I thought it would be, but I hope it pays off when it's finished.

Hopefully, in June I can begin working on Waking the Prince again so I can get that finished. It's deadline is September, but really I'd like to get it done before that because then I intend to start a new series for me, probably a trilogy featuring three different couples.

Upcoming Releases and Plans

So, in other news, while I was on hiatus, I wrote a short story for Amber Quill called Hitting it Big. It’s an Amber Kiss sized story so more along the lines of Manfred’s Curse as far as length is concerned. A light-hearted story about two guys who reconnect after one of them wins the lottery. We can dream, can’t we? It’s a bit of a departure for me in that the story is entirely from one character’s point of view. Not first person, though. I don’t plan to make a habit of it but for this story it worked.

The tentative release date for Hitting it Big is July 17, 2011, however this is most definitely subject to change..

I’m working on Waking the Prince and had hoped to have it done and submitted to a publisher by early summer. Not sure that's possible now, may be later summer, given that there was a project I had hoped to escape, but it's looking like I will not. I’ll keep you posted on when it’s finished and off to find a home.

For now I am working on the project I had hoped not to have to work on, but alas...well I am. I hope everything will turn out great on that score. And this is not the vacation story I bowed out of earlier, at least.

After that, I have another story I started that I will need to complete by September 01. Don’t anticipate any issues with that though. I can’t name it since I haven’t got a title yet, but I’ve started it.

Not sure if I will have time for anything else the rest of 2011 at this point. My schedule is really filling up. I still hope to work on my cop partners story later this year. I also have Sutter’s Bay 4 to tackle (Leo Winthrop’s story) and another “His” story, Can’t Be His.

If I can get that all done by the end of 2011 I’ll be surprised! LOL. Likely some of that will be pushed to 2012.

Waking the Prince Excerpt

Since I am running out of topics to discuss before Christmas and Only in His Dreams still is without a cover, thought I'd post an excerpt fr0m my current work in progress, Waking the Prince.

Roland kept a wide berth as he walked with the warrior, Magnus, to Amir’s graveyard. He’d never seen such a big man before. Magnus was dressed in his chain mail with large bulging muscles and a wicked looking sword.

Still, Roland could not deny he found much to admire about Magnus. His cheeks heated just thinking about how handsome the man was. Roland knew he was not supposed to find men attractive. But how was he to help it when faced with a man like Magnus?

Magnus was quite a bit taller than Roland. Probably a foot taller. Roland didn’t know how tall he was himself. The warrior had shoulder length dark hair, almost black, and dark piercing eyes with long, thick black lashes. His face was hard and rugged, his jaw chiseled like rock.

Roland missed a step and tripped. Magnus’s arm shot out bridging the distance between them effortlessly and steadied Roland. His face flamed hotter.

He cleared his throat. “Thank you.”

Magnus merely nodded and kept walking as though he knew where the graveyard was without Roland’s assistance.

Roland lifted his heated face to the cloud-filled sky for a moment, hoping it would cool him. He hurried after Magnus. “H-how long have you been a warrior?”

Magnus shrugged. “A long time. My father was one before me. I’ve been trained to be one since a boy.”

“I don’t think I could wield a sword like yours.”

“We will work on that.”

Roland frowned as they reached the graves. “We will?”

Magnus crouched down next to Roland’s father’s grave and the one next to it, but said nothing.

“That one there must be your father’s,” Roland said. “I’m sorry my parents did not speak of him.”

“He was a good man and a great warrior. Very loyal to the king and queen.” Magnus straightened, his gaze fixed intently on Roland.

Roland squirmed under the scrutiny. He did not know how to take such open staring. Especially from someone he found attractive. He stepped back and nearly stumbled over a large rock.

Magnus once more caught his arm and steadied him. “You must be careful, Roland.”

“I’ve always been a bit clumsy.”

“Every action you take from now on must be carefully thought out.”

He seemed so serious, Roland laughed. He could not help it. “What does that mean?”

“You will learn very soon.” Magnus glanced at the clouds. “I’ve felt a sprinkle or two. We should head back to your hut. I would not want you to be soaked and then to become ill.”

He might be younger and considerably smaller than Magnus, but that did not make him a child to be coddled. “I am not a baby. I will take the chance.”

A smile curved Magnus’s lips. “Nay, you are no mere babe.” And then, to Roland’s surprise, Magnus felt the muscles of his arms sending unwelcome jolts of longing through him. “Taking care of the crops has given you some muscles. You will fill out more with the training.”

“Training?”

Magnus seemed to step closer until they were only inches apart, so close he could feel the heat radiating from the big warrior’s body. Roland could barely breathe. There was something in Magnus’s gaze he couldn’t quite place, but it warmed his insides.

Magnus shook himself and broke their eye contact. A muscle ticked in his jaw and he exhaled heavily. “Is there a maiden here you are fond of?”

Roland swallowed, startled by the question. “No, there is no maiden.”

Waking the Prince

I am making progress on my fairytale m/m romance, Waking the Prince. There's my representation of the kiss. Probably a little more risque then it will be on paper, lol.
Yes, I am still working on other stories including Jude's. Right now the muse wants the pretty prince, Roland, and his hunky warrior, Magnus.
