Shiny New Cover

This one isn't out until April, but I love it and had to share

January 29, 2009

I'm working toward the conclusion of Most Likely to Succeed, though, I do have a ways to go. It's definitely going to be a novella rather than an Extended Amber Kiss. I'm almost to 15,000 words now.

So when I do finally finish it I need to decide what I want to do next. Beyond the Norm has long been neglected and I'm going to want to finish that eventually. I thought about EC for it but now I'm not sure the sex starts soon enough for them. I also want to start Car Wash. It's not due until April 1, but I don't want to run into the same issues I had with MLTS and be scrambling to finish it at the last minute. And then, on the other hand, I'm sort of itching to start my ghost story, too.

The edits for Trust are done and off to my editor. I also did the excerpt and blurb for the book, so I will be updating my site later tonight with the new blurb. Stay tuned for a release date.

I am falling behind on Most Likely to Succeed but I will see what I can get done by Saturday.

Fan girl alert: Ally Blue's latest Bay City Paranormal comes out today (this one Dean's story), so I will be buying and reading that as soon as possible.

Oh and I am finding more sites with my pirated books. Who would have ever imagined anyone would WANT to steal my books? Certainly not me.

Back from my weekend in Morro Bay. Had a lovely time in spite of the rain.

Got my edits for Trust, but nothing looks too bad. I'm sure I can have it done in no time.

At Long Last is now number one for Amber Quill on All Romance Ebooks.

Nothing terribly new to report. Still working on Most Likely to Succeed. Not sure when I will have it done, but I am making progress.

Got a decent review for At Long Last from Wave who runs the bog, Reviews by Jessewave. I was happy with it. It's always interesting to see another person's perspective and even see places you perhaps could have made clearer or stronger. All in all, though, it was a good review. First one I've seen for At Long Last (other than readers who have thus far been wonderful about it).

I'll be blogging on the Amber Quill blog tomorrow about characterization. Not sure yet what I will say.

Congratulations to soon-to-be President Obama. Unfortunately my having to work prevents me from watching the inauguration.

Didn't get quite as much done over the weekend as I would have liked on Most Likely to Succeed, but still making progress. I'm going away this weekend so I will bring my laptop with me for some more work.

At Long Last is still moving up on All Romance Ebooks. Last I checked it had made it to number 2 for Amber Quill books. I'm proud that book has made it so far when it was just added there Friday. I really do believe it is some of my best work.

Okay so, I blogged on another site about Stone of Wrath after the suggestion from blog follower, Cherry. Here are some links:

So today I found a site that had pirated all my Amber Quill books and one from Ellora's Cave. Does this mean I am becoming somewhat popular? Who knows?

At Long Last is now available at All Romance Ebooks and when I last checked it was at number 5 for Amber Quill. Will it rise any higher? Only the shadow knows.

Cover for Trust

As Promised

January 16, 2009

Got my cover for Trust yesterday (woo hoo). I'll post it to my website and to my blog this weekend. Have no release date yet but I am guessing I'll get one some time next month (the date, not the book will be released then).

Trust's cover was done by Les Byerly who does great work. He's done two of my covers before and I always like them. I like how he did this one, too. Two bare-chested guys with their mouths mere inches apart is always nice. Plus he put a guy typing on it which is cool since Justin is a writer and he put another guy's eye watching them which is also cool since that ties in with what's going on in the book. I also like the way he did the lettering for Trust. All in all I am quite pleased. To be posted soon (had to go through the approval process first).

So, Cherry, my blog follower, and very kind lady, has offered to allow me to promote Stone of Wrath on her site and blog. I am going to take her up on the offer and will advise and link to it when it has been done. I'd like to see Stone of Wrath get some more exposure as I think Jed and Topaz deserve some attention.

I'd say I am about only one-third done with Most Likely To Succeed. Will be working on it over what is a three-day weekend for me.

Wanting Sam has hit the coming soon pages of Ellora's Cave on the Jasmine-Jade site. Man, I love that cover. The dude representing Sam is SO HOT.

I'm looking forward to Sam coming out next month (February 27, 2009 to be exact). It's been a long time since I wrote that book, but I think I did a really good job on it and Sam is one of my favorite heroes that I have created.

I may have to come up with an idea for another heterosexual erotic romance yet. Maybe in the summer I can start something. Not before than, I think. But I am itching to get to one again.

I like to occasionally link to my website here in case readers have difficulty finding me. The more times it gets mentioned in places the better. Google is the only problem. I can be found easily with Yahoo and MSN search.

Making progress on Most Likely to Succeed. I hope to get well on my way to being finished by the end of this long weekend (MLK is a holiday for the day job). I don't know if I will be entirely finished, but I'd like to be close or at least seeing my way to the conclusion.

Originally this story was supposed to be part of a Pax collection for Amber Quill, but they didn't get enough stories, so I suspect it will be placed wherever there is a spot. Could still be in April though.

I've come up with a new story idea. It involves the brother of one of my heroes in my as yet to be released title, The Other Side. I needed another story to work on like I needed...well, you know. Title is Tempted to Taste. Look for that in the latter half of 2009.

Yesterday was a mix of good and bad.

Bad because my San Diego Chargers lost to the Steelers. It's okay, though, because they have a lot of talented players and heart and I know they'll be in the playoffs again next year.

Bad also because I didn't make any progress on Most Likely to Succeed over the weekend.

Good because At Long Last was released to brisk sales. That's always nice. And also good because I got a great review from Rainbow Reviews for Perfect Man.

The review reads:

"The title is appropriate. Especially as both main protagonists think the other is perfect. Neither are, but that’s the point of the story.

To say Craig has had a problematic past is an understatement. I really liked how we were gradually able to see what makes him tick. I fell in love with him, just as Alex did. There’s something about a strong man showing his vulnerable side.

Alex had the patience of Job. For the most part he hid his insecurities well. But when Craig needed him, such as the scene in Craig’s mother’s room, Alex put himself physically in front of Craig as a show of protection. This was awesome stuff.

The themes of forgiveness and healing from post traumatic stress were dealt with sensitively and were allowed to play out until they reached a natural conclusion. It was amazing how so much was packed into a novella length story. I have no hesitation in recommending this book."

At Long Last is released

When his best friend's younger brother gets a job at their law firm, Preston Reynolds begins to feel the same overwhelming attraction he felt for Scott Trask years earlier. But he couldn't be sexually attracted to the young gay man. Preston isn't gay.
Scott has been in love with Preston for years, but the man is straight, and he was married. And now that Preston is divorced, that doesn’t mean he is any more available.
The more Preston tries to ignore his attraction, however, the more he thinks about it. Finding himself alone at the office one night with Scott, he finally surrenders to his urges. Afterward, Scott wants to talk about what happened, but Preston doesn’t want to analyze it, still certain he couldn’t prefer men. When Preston suggests to the openly gay man that they keep things between them secret, however, the situation comes to a head.
Both men are forced to make difficult decisions, but will their choices tear them apart forever?

Kind of strange, but I think probably my least popular m/m has been Stone of Wrath. Not quite sure why that is. I really liked that book and thought I did a decent job, but I've noticed it is largely ignored by reviewers. Probably second to that would be Sorcerer's Lover. I wonder if it is the paranormal elements? I wouldn't say either have done badly, they've made sales, but not as many as some of the others.

I would definitely have to say my most popular books are Perfect Man and Pulling Away. I'm getting pretty strong reactions to Perfect Man from readers and I think it has been selling really well. Pulling Away has done very well at the Amber Quill sites and All Romance Ebooks, plus I have gotten lots of reviews on that book. It's obviously popular. And from what I can tell people either really like it or aren't too thrilled. Fortunately it seems like the majority of people who read it are ones who really like it. For those who don't like it, Charlie seems to be the reason. Maybe he can be somewhat redeemed in his appearance in Car Wash.

Once I am finished with Most Likely to Succeed (and I'm not even close by the way) I am thinking I will move on to trying to whip Beyond the Norm into shape for submission. I'm thinking EC although I have this sinking sensation that if they were to take it, they'd make me change the title due to some similar titles. I really like that title. I can try one of the other publishers, Loose Id or Liquid Silver come to mind, or I can go to Amber Quill where I am fairly certain the title will stick. Of course none of these decisions make any difference if I don't finish the thing.

What about Sorcerer's Lover 2? Well, you know, I don't want to rush it. I've worked on it recently and I think what I have written is good, maybe even really good, but I feel like if I push myself to finish it, it's going to suffer. I thought about doing that, briefly, but I think I was trying to take on too much for myself, and I decided I need to slow down and catch my breath. Which is why I am only working on Most Likely to Succeed right now as I have to have that done and I have edits for Jake's Regret and I know Trust edits are coming soon. So SL2, I think, will not make it out until the second six months of 2009.

January 06, 2009

Today I made some real progress on Most Likely to Succeed which should be out somewhere around April 12, 2009 (seems like a long time from now, doesn't it?)

This weekend I have a new release from Amber Quill called, At Long Last. That'll be it for the month of January.

At the moment I have two releases scheduled for February (The Other Side and Wanting Sam), one release scheduled for March (Jake's Regret), one scheduled for April (Most Likely to Succeed), no books for May, and one for June (Car Wash).

All but Most Likely to Succeed (in progress) and Car Wash (not started) are finished.

I don't yet have a release date for Trust coming from Ellora's Cave so I am not counting that.

Got a few more reviews on releases. Some have been great, some good, and some not so great. It's cool. People are quite different and have quite different opinions.

As a writer you are going to find that not everyone loves your writing. It's something you have to get used to. It's hard sometimes. You want everyone to rave about the characters and stories you create. It's not going to happen. Someone will hate your work. There are millions of people out there and that many differences in tastes and likes.

Welcome 2009

I hope everyone had a good New Year's Eve. Mine was quiet.

Perfect Man was released yesterday and I think has already had some success so I am very pleased. Thanks to anyone who bought it and anyone who is thinking of buying it. I have a special fondness for Alex and Craig.

Pulling Away got 5 Angels from Fallen Angel Reviews so I was pleased about that. It's been knocked out of first place on All Romance Ebooks for Amber Quill, but it had a good run and I can't complain.

Still trying to get some work done on Sorcerer's Lover 2, but have a while on it to go. I need to get back to Most Likely to Succeed. I hope to work on them both.

Anyway, Happy 2009 everyone. Hope this year brings everyone some happiness.
