Before I Forget

My heart goes out to Japan today. The news, pictures, and video coming from there today are just horrible. Coming from an earthquake-prone place myself (where talk of THE BIG ONE is never far away), I can only imagine what those poor people are going through right now and will for a very long time, I suspect.

  1. The images are horrifying. :( And then the USGS is saying the coast of Japan permanently shifted 8 feet and the earth's axis shifted 10 inches. Eep.

  2. The video's were terrible... You even saw people who were too late trying to escape.. Can't even imagine how you must feel if you experience such a thing..

My daughter is 16 and I asked her if she has heard the talk about Japan. She was vague because she knew something had happened but did not know of the severity. I had her sit with me by the computer as I went to a newswebsite and watched a couple videos and several pictures. I had to explain to her that I wanter her to be aware of things beyond her world because we are all the same and while we have not been primarily affected by a tragedy of this magnitude, others have - as those in Japan have had happen to them. Seeing the water rushing in and homes ripped away - seeing people in a video running for their lives trying to outdistance as fast as the can the rushing waves - seeing yachts on top of buildings. I told her of a picture I saw of the body of an old man laying on the stairs of the "inside" of his home, his body in a fetal position (there was a warning on the pic). She understood better that there is a world beyond hers. The pain is horrific but much more so for those who are there. Japan - you are in thoughts and prayers.
