An author is sending minions off to bash a review and a reviewer. They certainly aren't doing the author any favors. I see this all too often on sites like Goodreads but now I am seeing it on review sites at an ever increasingly alarming rate. Anyway, I can only shake my head and wonder what it takes to get the message out that this is not a good idea, never ever make a comment on a bad review, really. No arguing. I really mean this. Don't send your fans to do it for you either.
Every author I see freaking out at a reviewer or sending minions to freak out at a reviewer gets removed from my to-be-bought and to-be-read lists. I don't go as far as some folks on GRs, who have a tag for books by such an author - one I saw was 'bratty authors to avoid'...
ReplyDeleteI DO respect authors who behave professionally.
Yeah I've seen that same designation on Goodreads. I'm the same as you, that author goes on my do not buy list, but I keep that list in my head. This particular person that came to my attention today has behaved that way in the past but I hoped the lesson had been learned. Apparently not.
ReplyDeleteMy list is in my head, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI also remember the name of the person who did it, and I won't buy his/her books as soon.. An author should learn from a negative review, not punish someone for trying to explain why he didn't find it a good book.
