The Story of Pieces

Well, I have news.

I think I had pretty much implied I had sent Pieces out to find a home. Well, as it turned out, I sent it to an editor I worked with at another publisher. They have published my stories in the past.

Bottom line, they didn't want Pieces because they believe it didn't have enough sex and it didn't start early enough. It is their opinion novellas should be heavy on sex and light on plot. This what they believe their readers want. I'm not sure I would agree with their assessment of the readers out there, but they are quite successful so they do know of what they speak. I still don't believe my previous stories with them were all about sex, though. Not to say there isn't some very nice sex in Pieces, by the way.

Anyway, I decided the best decision I could make for myself and Pieces at this time was to offer it to Amber Quill and they offered me a contract for it, so I am quite happy with that outcome.

I believe the release date will be in the early summer but I'll let you know.

  2. Double poo...or...um...that doesn't sound good does it? LMAO

Yeah, I think they are mistaken that all readers want in erotic romance is sex, at least I know it's not true in my case as a reader.

And thanks for the congrats. :D

  3. Although the sex scenes are nice, a storyline with good characters is more important to me.

Congrats on getting a contract for Pieces. Also, very nice cover for Only His Heart.

  4. Thanks, S. I like the sex, trust me, I rarely read books that have NO sex, for instance, and just the stroking of the parts without full on sex isn't my thing either, BUT, I still want a story and it doesn't have to be sex scene after sex scene after sex scene. And some rule about how the sex must begin in chapter one just irritates me.

Anyhoo, thanks for the opinion. I knew there were plenty of us out there that like stories, even in shorter length stories.

  5. Ava is right. I think they made a mistake and really don't know their readers very well anymore.

Congrats on the new cover and kudos to AQP for being smart and taking it.

  6. I never liked that publisher, Shawn. I have bought only a couple books from them, but not anymore. They're not a good publisher, to their authors or their readers, and I don't like them at all.

I don't like to read just about sex - I like action. Plot. And their stories... Well, they don't exactly offer much of that. Not the stories I have read anyway.

So I'm happy you're offering Pieces to AQ, because that is my very favorite publisher! :D

  7. I don't buy from that publisher either. The books I have bought have been yours and a few others, but I haven't bought from them in a long time.
I think we all agree that it's their loss. How can they justify their misplaced reasonings? Do they not read reviews and see that most readers want more than just sex all the time?
I'm sorry they put you through that. We know that Amber Quill will always publish quality stories because they're smart enough to publish your stories.

  8. Ah, thanks guys, that's very cool. And I guess you all figured out who "that publisher" was, lol.

In all honesty my sales there for the books I released were pretty decent which is why I thought I'd give them a chance to prove to us that they could manage to produce good m/m stories, but I think for the most part they are interested in sex fantasies which is why their m/m category is filled with a lot of menages with chicks.

Anyway, as we all know, AQ rocks. I couldn't be happier with them.
